I have been through four pairs of glasses in the past year and a half. The problem is I take them off, put them down, and then something bad happens to them. I just can't keep my glasses on, they annoy me. Having something on my face constantly drives me crazy but I have to wear them. Don't mention contacts because having something in my eye is worse than something on my face. How can I keep my glasses on?

For me, wearing glasses is not optional, if I want to see where I'm going, what I'm doing, etc. It sounds like you don't really need your glasses all the time? Have you tried putting them on a pretty nice necklace around your neck so you don't have to set them down when you do take them off? -

Re: Hate wearing my glasses
Tue, August 28, 2007 - 7:40 PMI do need them! I prefer to see facesless blobs than to having them on my face. A friend once made me a necklace for my glasses, I looked very olf wearing them. I guess I'll try duct tape! -

Tue, August 28, 2007 - 8:15 PMI was going to say that if hate wearing glasses then...you're fired.
But then I remembered that I had Lasik.
I still adore you!

Re: Hate wearing my glasses
Wed, August 29, 2007 - 6:57 AMHi there. This is Alex, the group's lurking optician. Your complaint is a common one in my business. First thing to consider is your lenses. How high is your RX? Even if it's not terribly high, invest in the thinnest hi index lenses you can get. At the very least, request polycarb or (better yet) trivex as these are light weight materials also, in addition to being very safe. Secondly, if your RX will permit, go for a drill mount frame, prefferably one of the titanium ones made by Marchon or Silhouette. These frames consist of three pieces, the temples (the part that goes over your ears) and the bridge (the bit over the nose)and the point connect to your lenses by being drilled through the lens itself and is held secure by plastic bushings. This is a much sturdier arrangement than it sounds like. Get the SMALLEST lenses that you can, especially if you are a myope (near sighted) as this wil also decrease weight. Lastly, request silicone nose pads instead of hard plastic ones. These are softer and a bit "sticky" which helps them stay in place as well as being more comfortable. At the very least, choose thin lenses and a light weight metal frame and stay away from the plastic frames. While cute and all the rage right now, fit can be an issue and they tend to slide if you get warm at all and since that sort of thing bugs you, stay away from them. Hope that helped! -

Re: Hate wearing my glasses
Sat, September 1, 2007 - 10:04 AMThank you, your post helps me too as I do not like wearing my glasses and I need some new ones.
I make jewelry and I wore my glasses on a beaded chain around my neck for years. People often thought I had on long earrings when i had the glasses on my face. I can make you a custom chain and I live in Berkeley, if you are interested.

Re: Hate wearing my glasses
Thu, September 6, 2007 - 4:40 PMI can relate... So I bought several pairs of cheap glasses trying plastic, and metal frames. One pair may be heavier, or larger than the others. Eventually you'll find a frame style, and composition that is the least intrusive on your face. Keep trying, and make it fun.
Best Regards,
Tim(my)
