Do you go for the "glasses in an hour" spots like Lens Crafters and Pearle and Binyons? Shop the internet? Haunt the antique shops for vintage frames? Do you shop the dispensary at a private practice? Why do you shop where you do? Is it price? Exclusivity? Service? Convienence? How much attention do you pay to lens options and what sort of questions do you ask when shopping for a new pair of glasses? These are things opticians like to know! :)

The funny thing is, after having my first pair of frames and breaking them after two years, I tried on every pair of frames in the store and picked out the same ones, in a different color. I have a small face, and everything else was too wide.

Thu, September 27, 2007 - 10:08 AMI tend to just drop into stores that carry glasses (Optical Underground and Rims & Goggles in SF are my favorites). I have a regular optometrist who is absolutely fab, but they don't always carry something I like.
Price is really no concern unless they're heinously expensive. I usually will get a pair on my vision insurance, another pair through my medical (which has a vision discount) and then a 3rd pair that's the 'high end', since the first two are typically going to be more utilitarian in design (why IS it that the really fabulous looking frames are the ones that cost so much??).
I never shop on the internet unless i know the specific brand/model of the frame, since I gotta see it on me first to be sure I like it...

Wed, October 24, 2007 - 11:32 AMi've done both. if i see a pair of frames at optical underground i'll by them and take them to my gegular guy ... but i got my black frames at a walk-in shop. i went for a check-up and asked the guy to pick out a pair of frames for me, just to see what he came up with ... and they were exactly what i wanted. the easiest pair i ever bought. -

Tue, December 4, 2007 - 9:05 AMi've been getting my frames from the same shop for nearly 17 years. great place in my town called sunny vision. owned by a korean family, they have the most stylish frames outside nyc. since my family has been buying there for so many years, we get better prices, and usually are able to find the nicest, best fitting pair in no time. they kick all kinds of ass!!
